I am a physician graduated from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in 2001, with a specialization in Urology at the Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre. During my training as a urologist, I became interested in what are considered the most complex areas within urology: pediatrics and reconstruction.
At the end of my residency, influenced by Prof. Walter Koff, I continued my training at the Paulista School of Urology, where I completed my fellowship in Pediatric Urology (I was the first fellow in pediatric urology trained by the Brazilian Society of Urology) under the guidance of Professor Antonio Macedo Jr and my doctorate in Urology at the same university, focusing on urethral reconstructive surgery. Upon returning to Porto Alegre, I completed my studies in urological reconstruction and Gender Affirmation Surgery with Professor Walter Koff, a pioneer of these techniques in Latin America.
I remain as an assistant in the Urology Service at HCPA, initiating the Pediatric and Reconstructive Urology Unit of the institution (GURI). Over the years, I have held all assistant positions within the Urology Service, culminating in my approval as a Professor in the Department of Surgery at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and as the first Professor of Pediatric Urology in the history of our century-old Medical School. Since 2016, I have been the Head of the Urology Service at HCPA and Chief Surgeon of PROTIG (Gender Identity Program at HCPA - the oldest in Brazil).
We were pioneers in robotic reconstructive and pediatric surgery in Latin America, certified by Prof. Mohan Gundetti from the University of Chicago since 2012, having performed the first pediatric robotic pyeloplasty in Southern Brazil, the first robotic urethral reconstruction in RS, and the first vaginoplasty/Sexual Reaffirmation Surgery in Latin America, the first robotic correction of ureteral stenosis, among other rare and innovative procedures.
Over these years, I have guided and trained dozens of medical residents, masters, and doctors in urology. I have taught in Europe, the United States, Mexico, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Peru, Paraguay, and Argentina on complex topics in pediatric urology and urological reconstruction. I have been invited to perform demonstrative surgeries in various countries such as Mexico, Peru, Colombia, and Argentina. I am the author of numerous international papers on pediatric and reconstructive urology, as well as the President-Elect of the Ibero-American Society of Pediatric Urology.
